Gram Sabha credit cards introduced in Mandla district

Gram Sabha credit cards have been introduced in tribal Mandla district.

BHOPAL: Gram Sabha credit cards have been introduced in tribal Mandla district.

With the introduction of these cards in Nainpur block, now villagers can afford to get credit and a gram sabha can function as a micro-finance institution.

In Jaltare village, that has 350-plus population, the gram sabha has issued credit cards to poor families. So far, 30 gram sabha credit cards have been issued.

Small loans have been provided in at least 50 cases. The gram sabha credit card is a simple credit card unlike those of national banks, having basic details including name and assets.

As per the rules laid down, credit would not be made available for marriage, purchasing vehicles and house construction. The amount is chiefly to be used for earning livelihood.
