Graft cases against public servants: BJP uses Supreme Court verdict to attack PM

The SC verdict on sanctioning prosecution of public servants for corruption sparked off a fresh Opposition offensive against PM.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court's verdict on sanctioning prosecution of public servants for corruption sparked off a fresh Opposition offensive against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

BJP described the court's observations as the "second indictment" of the prime minister and the government after the fiasco over the appointment of PJ Thomas as Central Vigilance Commissioner.

The party alleged that the PM had given "vague replies" to questions on former telecom minister A Raja in the 2G spectrum scam during the 16 months that his prosecution was kept pending.

"Will Manmohan Singh draw the right lessons. He had suffered severe embarassment in the case of CVC PJ Thomas," BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
