Govt, UNIFEM to organise conference on Beijing Declaration

With a pledge to transform women's lives, the government and UNIFEM are organising a South Asia Regional ministerial conference to commemorate Beijing declaration for gender justice and women's empowerment in the capital from January 17-19.

NEW DELHI: With a pledge to transform women's lives, the government and UNIFEM are organising a South Asia Regional ministerial conference to commemorate Beijing declaration for gender justice and women's empowerment in the capital from January 17-19.

The two day conference of Ministry of Women and Child Development and Unifem will witness the meeting of ministers responsible for women's development at Vigyan Bhawan.

The other participants at the meeting would be the SAARC Secretary General, Secretaries of the Women's Ministries and a section of civil society through women's organisations from the region.

The conference will be inaugurated by the President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.

This meeting is a platform to review the action taken and progress made by the respective governments on the Beijing Platform for measuring gender justice and women's empowerment.


The Bejing conference on women held in Beijing in 1995. World leaders from 189 countries met to promise equality and gender justice to women, making a commitment to undertake concrete actions towards it.
