Govt to take steps to get Cauvery final verdict gazet
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said the state government would take all steps for gazetting the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal by the Centre.
"To implement the final award of the tribunal, it has to be notified in the central gazette. Immediate action will be taken (to do that). This will become binding on government of Karnataka to implement it," she informed the state Assembly.
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are locked in a battle over the decades-long dispute on sharing of Cavuery waters, an emotive issue in both states.
The tribunal had in 2007 given its final award, allocating 419 tmcft water to Tamil Nadu and 270 tmcft to Karnataka.
However, Jayalalithaa had been crying hoarse against the previous DMK government, accusing it of failing to get the award notified in the Central gazette.
Even during campaigning for the April 13 polls, she had promised to get it notified in central gazette.
