Congress today downplayed the situation caused by the rising prices of onions, insisting that the government would be taking appropriate measure to bring down the rates of essential commodities.


NEW DELHI: Congress today downplayed the situation caused by the rising prices of onions, insisting that the government would be taking appropriate measure to bring down the rates of essential commodities.

Party spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan said a temporary ban on export of onions has already been put in force and the government was closely monitoring the situation.

"The government will ensure that the prices of onions and other essential commodities do not rise," she said.
