Govt to create CDS post after consultation with political parties

'The recommendations given by Kargil Review Committee on creating the post for CDS is under consideration by the government.'

NEW DELHI: A decision to create the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) will be taken by the government after completion of the ongoing consultation with political parties, Defence Minister A K Antony told the Lok Sabha today.

In a written reply to the House, he also said the recommendations given by Kargil Review Committee on creating the post for CDS is under consideration by the government.

"The report of the GoM, constituted on the basis of Kargil Review Committee Report, contained 75 recommendations relating to defence management of which eight, relating to CDS, are under consideration of government.

"A decision on creation of the post of CDS will be taken after completion of the ongoing consultations with political parties," Antony said.

He also said the Naresh Chandra Task Force constituted by the government on national security has submitted its recommendations.

"The National Security Council Secretariat is conducting inter-ministerial consultations on the recommendations of the Task Force," he said.
