Govt to check poaching along Nathu La pass

Scotching fears of an increase in poaching following opening of the Nathu La pass for trade with China, government on Tuesday said security forces guarding the trading post will be trained to identify such products.


NEW DELHI: Scotching fears of an increase in poaching following opening of the Nathu La pass for trade with China, government on Tuesday said security forces guarding the trading post will be trained to identify such products.

Union Environment Secretary Prodipto Ghosh said the government had taken several steps to check illegal trade of poached goods.

He said the Chinese government has also implemented certain laws disallowing display of products made by using endangered animals.

Besides, paramilitary forces guarding the Nathu La pass would be given special training to identify poached goods that could be a traded in through the newly-opened post, he told reporters here.
