SHIMLA: Two prime "benami" properties in Kullu district allegedly belonging to former deputy prime minister Devi Lal and his grandson Ajay Chautala have been vested with the government.

Kullu deputy commissioner B M Nanta passed orders recently on the matter pending in the revenue court since June 1997.

An inquiry conducted by the revenue department on these properties revealed that, 12 bighas of land in Kullu tehsil and another 1.4 bigha in Manali on which a hotel had been constructed fell in the category of "benami" land, Nanta said.

The officer said two properties in Fati Shilihar opposite Kullu-Manali airport measuring 12 bighas was allegedly owned by Devi Lal while the 1.4 bigha of land in Mohal Manali and a hotel build over it was owned by Ajay Chautala.

12 bighas was purchased in the name of Hari Krishan while the 1.4 bigha land was bought in the name of Yash Pal, a resident of Una, he said.

Meanwhile, Chautala's counsel said they would challenge the order of the deputy commissioner in the court of the divisional commissioner, Mandi.
