'Govt should implement Singur agreement in letter, spirit'
The Congress on Sunday said that the West Bengal government should implement the agreement it had arrived with the Opposition on Singur at talks presided over by Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi in letter and spirit or it would be an act of betrayal.
"It will be most undemocratic and an act of betrayal if the state government fails to honour the agreement," West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said here on Sunday.
Dasmunshi regretted that the Congress was neither invited to the talks at the Raj Bhavan nor consulted by any one on this issue. "The rights of the unwilling farmers should be honoured," he observed.
