NEW DELHI: The government told Parliament on Wednesday that “no specific” report has been received from Jammu and Kashmir about any “new loss” of income and jobs owing to restrictions imposed since August 5, following the withdrawal of special status granted under Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcation of the state into two Union territories.

“There is no specific report received from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir regarding any new losses on account of such preventive steps taken as a shortterm measure,” Union minister of state for home G Kishan Reddy said in reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

He also said that the people of the region would now be able to realise the “full potential” of all sectors of economy, just as in other parts of the country.

The minister was replying to a written question from CPI (M) leader K Somaprasad, who had asked whether the government had taken note of the burden, loss of income and jobs of people of J&K following the imposition of restrictions and whether there was any plan to declare a compensation package for those who had lost their jobs and earnings.

In reply to another written question, Reddy said the reorganisation of the erstwhile state into a UT was done as per the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 and that there was no additional financial implication for J&K.
