Mumbai: Government of India wants to promote arbitration in key government ministries as litigation gets increasingly plagued by deficiencies like high cost and delays.

With this aim, the union government conducted a training session with Nani Palkhivala Arbitration Centre (NPAC) in Mussorie on June 6 and 7, NPAC said in a release. Senior bureaucrats from key central ministries participated in the training. Nani Palkhivala is a Madras High Court recognised arbitration forum in southern India.

“Recent years have seen a spurt in high-value disputes which have taken arbitration route. It has become imperative for government machinery to acknowledge this fact," NL Rajah, senior advocate at Madras High Court said.

The Ministry of Justice has recognised 19 institutions including NPAC where government departments may go for resolving disputes through arbitration.
