Govt may consider changes in Electronics Services bill
Govt may consider tomorrow changes in the Electronics Delivery of Services Bill to bring the proposed law in sync with Citizen Charter Bills.
"The Cabinet may discuss changes in Electronics Delivery of Services Bill, 2011, and bring it in sync with Citizen's Charter Bill which talks about citizen's right to get timely delivery of services," a source told.
The Cabinet had approved EDS Bill in 2011 to bring in transparency and prevent corruption in delivery of public services, like driving licence and permit, through use of electronic medium, particularly Internet.
The idea behind the EDS bill is to reduce the interface of public with government officials and save time and money on such visits.
The Right of Citizens for Time-Bound Delivery of Goods and Services and Redressal of their Grievances Bill, 2011, also known as Citizen's Charter bill was approved by Union Cabinet on March 7.
The Bill envisages penalty of up to Rs 50,000 against a government official failing to provide his or her duties, official sources said.
