Govt may adjourne Parliament sine die ahead of Dec 13

NEW DELHI: With the government-opposition stand off on JPC into 2G spectrum scam showing no signs of ending, the winter session of Parliament may be adjourned sine die ahead of the scheduled end on December 13, even as early early next week.

The government is toying with two options: one of adjourning the session soon after the passage of crucial financial bills, a process that is expected to be completed by Friday in both the Houses, sources said.

Alternatively, the session could extended for a few more days and adjourned sine die next week.

After wasting 14 consecutive days, Parliament transacted some substantive business today as Lok Sabha passed the supplementary demands for 2010-11 amid pandemonium created by the Opposition over its demand for JPC probe into the 2G spectrum scam.

Undeterred by the opposition uproar, the government pushed the crucial financial bill through in the Lower House by a voice vote without debate before it was adjourned for the day in view of unruly scenes.

At an all-party meeting called by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar yesterday, the Opposition had made it clear that it will not allow Parliament to function till JPC into 2G spectrum allocation is set up but the government said the demand was "unacceptable".

The Opposition parties also emphasised that it will not be satisfied by anything less than JPC, rejecting government's proposal for Supreme Court-monitored CBI probe into 2G scam.
