Govt identifies 30 river links from among states' proposals

Govt said the National Water Development Authority had identified 30 river links from amongst several proposed by states and feasibility reports have been prepared for 16 of them.

NEW DELHI: Government on Monday said the National Water Development Authority (NWDA) had identified 30 river links from amongst several proposed by states and feasibility reports have been prepared for 16 of them.

"NWDA has already identified 14 links under Himalayan Component and 16 links under Peninsular Rivers Component," Minister of State for Water resources Vincent Pala said in reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

"Out of these, Feasibility Reports of 14 links under Peninsular Component and two links under Himalayan Component (Indian portion) have been prepared," Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent Pala said in response to a question in Rajya Sabha.

Five Peninsular links namely Ken-Betwa, Parbati -Kalisindh-Chambal, Damanganga-Pinjal, Par-Tapi-Narmada and Godavari-Krishna have been identified as priority links for taking up their Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), Pala said.

DPR of one priority link namely Ken-Betwa has been completed and was communicated to the party states. The Ken-Betwa link project has been included in the scheme of National Projects, he sid.

The NWDA has received 36 proposals of intra-state links from the seven states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, Pala said.

In his reply, Pala also said that a certified copy of the recent direction of the Supreme Court on the subject of inter linking of rivers had so far not been received in the Ministry of Water Resources.
