Govt has compromised over further nuclear testing: Jaitley
Alleging that the government has compromised over the option of further nuclear testing in the Indo-US nuclear deal, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley today said that the deal in its present form renders any nuclear test "obsolete".
"Our stand is what was earlier. There is no change. The deal in its present form, any test will become obsolete," Jaitley told reporters here.
Replying to questions regarding the deal and India getting historic waiver from Nuclear Suppliers Group, the MP said, "Truth... will come out. Can India undertake Pokhran 3 in future?"
"Pokhran one (nuclear explosion) was undertaken during the Indira Gandhi period and was followed by Pokhran two by NDA government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Will there be any Pokhran-3?
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that it can take place. But the US said that there would no Pokhran-3. What is the truth?"
To a question about US presidential candidate Barack Obama's charge that Pakistan was using American aid against India, he said, "What we were telling the world for over two decades, now US and other countries are saying. Now world community is noticing this," he said.
