The Congress on Thursday accused the Modi government of facilitating permission to Adani group for a mega solar energy project just one kilometre away from the border with Pakistan, with provisions for other border areas.

Quoting a report in the Western media, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and All India Congress Committee general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal claimed the project was cleared by relaxing security norms and by putting pressure on the army and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and defence minister Rajnath Singh provide an explanation in the matter. The opposition may raise the issue in Parliament on Thursday, the last sitting before the recess.

Kharge said in a social media post, addressing PM Modi, "You have endangered national security at our borders in order to benefit private billionaires! Is it true that you have gifted precious strategic land, just 1 km near the international border with Pakistan, to your 'Dear Friend' by relaxing border security rules?"
