Govt dismisses Mayawati claims over Arushi's murder

Centre dismissed a claim by UP Chief Minister Mayawati that it is scoring points for political gains as the probe in Arushi's murder goes on.

NEW DELHI: The centre today dismissed a claim by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati that it is scoring points for political gains as the probe in 14-year-old Noida girl Arushi's murder goes on.

Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhary said she was shocked at Mayawati's charge.

"I am shocked. Instead of asking the police to answer in Aarushi's murder, she is levelling charges against the government. I do not understand why she is taking it personally."

She added: "I am reacting as a mother. I wish Mayawati would know what it is to feel that way. It is matter of concern that a young innocent girl is killed inside her house. This is of greater concern than dragging politics into it."

In Lucknow, Mayawati today alleged that the case is being blown up more for dirty politics and less out of sympathy for the affected family.

"Me and my party strongly condemn this," she said.
