Govt committed to deliver IT across the country: Sachin Pilot

He said government has also cleared Rs 67 crore for statewide area network and highlighted an E-district pilot project in Bankura and Jalpaiguri.

KOLKATA: The Centre is committed to deliver IT facility across the country and Rs 20,000 crore would be spent to connect all panchayats in India, Minister of State for Communications and IT, Sachin Pilot said on Wednesday.

"The government is committed to deliver IT facility across the country. In the next 24-30 months, the government is planning to connect all the 2.5 lakh panchayats through fibre optic broadband network," he said here.

He said government has also cleared Rs 67 crore for statewide area network and highlighted an E-district pilot project in Bankura and Jalpaiguri.

Reacting to the recent blogging controversy, Pilot said, "Our stand is clear, we are against censorship. But there is law of the country and all companies has to abide with law of the land."

Meanwhile, State IT Minister Partha Chatterjee said the state will give 20 per cent of the construction cost for the new proposed facility for National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (erstwhile, DOEACC Society).

He said the total project cost is Rs 19 crore and this will help in creating IT manpower in the state.
