Governor's summoning chief secy, DGP unconstitutional: CPI(M)

Guwahati: Ruling CPI (M) rallied around chief minister Manik Sarkar for preventing Chief Secretary and the Director General of police (DGP) from meeting Governor Tathagata Roy at Raj Bhawan.

Sarkar prevented Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan and Director General of Police (DGP) Akhil Kumar Shukla from meeting the Governor.

CPI (M) central committee member Gautam Das justified Sarkar's move, saying summoning of the two officials by the governor, without informing the chief monister, was unconstitutional.


“Is it possible that President will summon a cabinet minister or cabinet secretary without keeping Prime minister informed?" he asked.

Poll-bound Tripura is witnessing frequent clashes between the Left Front and BJP supporters. BJP is claiming that there is breakdown of law and order. The party is planning to move Election commission.

On Tuesday Amal Malakar a BJP worker was killed. BJP claimed that as many as seven of its workers were killed in recent times in the state.

BJP attempt to woo tribal leaders found takers with five leaders of the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) joining the party. IPFT leaders - Subhash Reang and Debendra Debbarma , Ramananda Debbarma, Pushrai Debbarma and Sunil Tripura joined BJP.
