Governor’s political remark invites Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah Ire

Srinagar: Governor Satyapal Malik has said PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s demand for disciplinary action against an officer was the “result of frustration”, as her party was “breaking up”.

Speaking on the sidelines of a function in Jammu on Wednesday, the governor said: “We stand with our forces. They aren’t involved in committing any excesses. Why are you not sympathizing, Mehbooba Mufti?

This is election time and her party is breaking and in the worst condition. She came to power with this kind of remarks. You should not take her seriously.”


Mufti had demanded action against Major Rohit Shukla of 44 Rashtriya Rif les, for allegedly beating up Touseef Ahmad Wani, a resident of Pulwama, on Monday. Wani had alleged that Shukla threatened to kill him if he did not pose with a gun and upload such a photo on social media. The civilian’s brother Abid Wani, working with J&K Light Infantry is undergoing interrogation in the Aurangzeb murder case.

Aurangzeb, a soldier, was abducted and killed by terrorists last June.

Mufti reacted to the governor’s remark by tweeting: “It is sad that the honorable governor is talking politics... Army men hailed as heroes need to be held accountable if they commit human rights violations.”

NC’s Omar Abdullah said: “Governor saab, this is an unacceptable statement and unnecessary interference in politics…please consider the office you occupy.”
