Nagaland Governor on Saturday asked government officials to function efficiently so that people could exercise their franchise to elect a new government of their choice in March assembly polls in the state.

KOHIMA: Nagaland Governor on Saturday asked government officials to function efficiently so that people could exercise their franchise to elect a new government of their choice in March assembly polls in the state.

Unfurling the national flag at civil secretariat ground on the occasion of 59th Republic Day celebrations, the Governor said free and fair elections were very vital for growth and development of the state.

The governor also appealed to all sections of society to extend their full support and co-operation in the government's endeavour to create a conducive atmosphere for a violence free election.

Referring to political situation in the state, he emphasised on strengthening the peace process where various NGOs, Naga civil society and grassroot-level government functionaries like 'gaonburhas' and 'dobhashis' were being actively involved.

The governor reiterated that the government's priority during Presidents Rule was to restore law and order, revitalise the Public Distribution System and improvement of roads in the state.
