Governor removes Patna varsity vice chancellor
Amid the crisis in Patna University over its vice chancellor's visit to France and subsequent suspension of its head of department of Economics, its Chancellor and Bihar Governor R S Gavai on Monday, removed Y C Simhadri from the post of the VC.
According to Rajbhavan sources, the Chancellor's office asked Simhadri to relinquish his post soon after students representating different organisations vandalised the university office demanding his ouster.
Several students of the economics department had also raised slogans against its head N K Choudhary's suspension.
Simhadri immediately put in his papers and M P Singh, the dean of department of Zoology, was appointed vice chancellor-in-charge till appointment of a full-fledged VC bringing the curtains down over a fortnight-long crisis, official sources said.
''The decision to suspend Choudhary has come a bit too late and if he has been penalised for his remarks at the senate meeting on December 29, it would have come soon after the meeting held a few days ago,'' PUTA president U K Sinha said.
Besides, Choudhary could have been prevented from speaking at the senate meeting, he said. ''The remarks could also have been expunged and now it clearly shows that the action against him was a well thought out move.''
The state committee of SFI, All India Students Association and Patna town committee of CPI-ML also criticised the suspension and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
