SANTKABIRNAGAR (UP): Directives to deal with flood situation in eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh have been issued and the government would take all possible steps to avert a tragedy, Chief Minister AkhileshYadav said on Monday.


"Whether there is excessive rainfall on the hills or in Nepal, it would have an impact in Purvanchal. Therefore, we should remain prepared for dealing with the flood situation here," Akhilesh told reporters in response to a question on floods in this part of the state.

The Chief Minister said necessary directives had been issued to the officials concerned to deal with the situation and the government would take all measures in this regard.

Akhilesh had come here to give compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of Sudhakar Yadav who died in helicopter crash in Uttarakhand recently.

He said extending respect to martyr was a tradition for which he had come to the IAF officer's native village Maghar-Asharfabad by road after landing at Khalilabad.

The Chief Minister also assured of making arrangements for good education of his two children.
