Government urges US to refrain from withdrawing troops in Afghanistan
NEW DELHI: The Modi government, worried over recent reports that suggest that Pakistan’s spy agency ISI is encouraging terror groups and Taliban elements including Haqqani network to target Indian assets in Afghanistan, has moved the Obama administration to stay put in the landlocked country and retain its interest there.

Delhi has always been apprehensive of Taliban plans to attack its wide-ranging assets in Afghanistan once the international troops withdraw from there by year-end. The fears have been bolstered following recent reports that the government has received from Afghanistan which claimed that Haqqani group may be planning attack on Indian projects and nationals, according to official sources.

While Lashkar-e-Taebbya ( LeT) has been responsible for last few attacks on Indian assets in the landlocked country including strike of Indian Consulate in Herat, days before Modi’s swearingin, sources alleged that Haqqani group is once again being encouraged from across the border to plan attacks.

Sources claimed similar information has also been shared with India by other foreign governments.
