Government trying to erase legacy of Nehru: Kumar Ketkar

Attempts are being made to erase the legacy of the country's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and it is becoming a part of the policy under the current dispensation, journalist-turned-politician Kumar Ketkar said today.

Ketkar said the government was selectively highlighting only the shortcomings of the first prime minister.

"The government is trying to erase the legacy of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. In fact, this is becoming part of the policy. Look at the Nehru Memorial Museum & Library or any other institution," Ketkar said.


He was speaking at the launch of a book by Uttam Khobragade, a former IAS officer from Maharashtra, who has now joined the Congress.

Known to be close to the Nehru-Gandhi family, the Congress sent veteran journalist Ketkar to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra this year.

Khorbragade said it is because of Nehru that democracy survived in the country.

Former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde also attended the event.
