Government to appeal against Andhra Pradesh HC quota order next week

NEW DELHI:The government may file a SLP early next week, challenging the Andhra Pradesh HC order on the 4.5% sub-quota for minorities within the 27% OBC quota in education. Law minister Salman Khurshid had earlier said the government would move the SC in July after the summer break, and not approach the vacation bench.

The change of plans, as per a government source, was on account of the difficulties that students seeking admission to centrally funded institutions, particularly IITs and IIMs, would face. IITs will announce their final admission list on June 13, a stay on the Andhra HC order has to be secured before that date for students to benefit from the sub-quota this year.
