Demonetisation: Ratan Tata calls for emergency measures to help common man
His statement that he tweeted said that although the government is doing its best, it may be worthwhile to bring in relief measures.

“While the government is doing its best to increase the availability of the new currency notes, it may be worthwhile to consider special relief measures similar to those employed at times of national calamities to serve the poorer segment of the population for their daily needs and for enabling emergency healthcare/medical treatment in smaller hospitals,” the interim chairman of Tata Sons said in a statement uploaded on his Twitter handle on Thursday. The statement, issued under ‘Some further thoughts on implementation of demonetisation programme’, said the note ban “is said” to be causing great hardship to the common man.
Tata further said any emergency measures will be appreciated by the people. “It would exhibit that the government cares and has not forgotten the needs of the common man at this moment of transition during the implementation of such an important demonetisation programme,” he said.
This is the second time that Tata has tweeted about demonetisation. His previous tweet on Tuesday had said this was a ‘bold act’ that will wipe out black money and corruption. He had added that such a measure needed public support. This is the third time in the last one month that Tata has engaged with the public.
On Saturday, during the Global Citizen Festival where music band Coldplay performed, Tata had pledged Rs 300 crore from Tata Trusts for water sanitation of Maharashtra. He heads Tata Trusts that owns twothirds of Tata Sons, the holding company of Tata Group.
