NEW DELHI: The government has set up a task force to suggest ways and means to establish a financially viable steel plant in the newly created state of Telangana, Parliament was informed today.

As per the 13th Schedule of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, SAIL was to examine the feasibility of establishing an ISP in Khammam district in Telangana within six months from the appointed day -- June 2, 2014, Minister of State for Steel Vishnu Deo Sai said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.

"The feasibility report was submitted by SAIL on December 1, 2014. As per the feasibility report setting up of steel plant with the proposed configurations is prima facie not financially viable," he added.

The minister informed the House that the Steel Ministry has set up a task force to suggest ways and means to make the setting up of a steel plant in Telangana financially viable.

The task force will also identify and quantify incentives and concessions required as well as prepare a road map with responsibility mapping, Sai said.
