DEHRADUN: The Centre has sought a proposal from Uttarakhand government suggesting possible sites within the state for establishing the proposed Centre For Himalayan Studies.

The proposal was sought by the Centre when Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar met Additional Secretary (Forest and Environment Ministry) Hem Pandey in New Delhi yesterday to enquire about progress of the project proposed in the general budget this year.

"The proposed Centre For Himalayan Studies in Uttarakhand is in the initial stages of its implementation.

The Centre would first like to have a proposal from the state government clarifying whether it wants the Centre For Himalayan Studies to be established separately or within the premises of the FRI in Dehradun or the Almora based Vivekanand Institute, " the Chief Secretary said.

He said a decision in this regard will be taken after consulting Chief Minister Harish Rawat and a proposal will soon be forwarded to the Centre to speed up implementation of the ambitious project.
