Government says TERI private entity, can’t monitor its activities
NEW DELHI: In its first response related to the sexual harassment case filed against RK Pachauri by a former junior colleague at The Energy and Resources Institute ( TERI), the government said the institute is a “private entity” and so it cannot monitor its functioning or activities.

The government also denied that it is a “substantial funder” of TERI, in its response filed a week ago in the Delhi High Court on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF); Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). According to the woman complainant, TERI had received substantial funding from the Central government through its various departments. She had also said the MoEF, MEA and the BEE have been funding the institute for a number of years now.

In its response, the government said the “nature of relationship” between its ministries and TERI is “purely project-based and contractual”. The financing received by TERI from the government is “very minuscule”, it added.
