NEW DELHI: To ensure impregnability on the Line of Control, the government has sanctioned the army to raise three Engineer Territorial Army units in J&K to look at maintenance and upkeep of the LOC fence. The fence is damaged each year due to heavy snowfall. The recruitment process for these battalions, which consist of over 1200 soldiers, will be undertaken soon.

“Army will raise three Engineer Territorial Army units in J&K soon as the Government of India has already sanctioned these units for the state,” said the army spokesperson at Northern Command, in an official statement today.

As the snow melts each year, it causes extensive damage to the fence along the line of control.
