NEW DELHI: The 26 days, which senior IPS officer K Durga Prasad served as head of elite SPG beyond his tenure of three years before being shunted out unceremoniously, has been "regularised" by the government after a delay of over a month.

This will enable him to take up the new posting as Special Director in any of the paramilitary forces.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet today gave a post-facto approval to a proposal for regularisation of the period of stay of Prasad "on deputation in SPG from 02.11.2014 to 28.11.2014," an official statement said.

The 1981-batch IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh was unceremoniously relieved as SPG Director on November 28 when he was accompanying Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to Kathmandu for SAARC summit in November.

Prasad was appointed as SPG Director in 2011 for a period of two years, which was extended by one more year in 2013 up to November 1, 2014.

Before the end of his tenure, Prasad had written to the Cabinet Secretary over his fate after the completion of his tenure. However, the government decided to relieve him on November 28, 2014.

There was a question mark over the 26 days which he served as SPG Director beyond his tenure which ended on November 1.

In the absence of any regularisation of his tenure from November two onwards, Prasad was not getting a chance in further placement in para-military forces.

SPG looks after the security of the Prime Minister, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her two children -- Rahul and Priyanka -- and former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.
