Government panel on Clause 6 of Assam Accord reconstituted

The panel was earlier set up in January this year. However, then chairman and former Union tourism secretary M P Bezbaruah refused to be part of the panel.

NEW DELHI: The Union home ministry on Tuesday reconstituted the high-level committee to implement Clause 6 of 1985 Assam Accord with a new chairman and increased the number of members from 9 to 12.

The panel was earlier set up in January this year. However, then chairman and former Union tourism secretary M P Bezbaruah refused to be part of the panel.

Bezbaruah was the fifth member among the nine who refused to be part of the committee in wake of protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in Northeast. The new panel announced by the home ministry will have former Gauhati high court judge Justice (retd) Biplab Kumar Sarma as the chairman.


The other members include---Ramesh Borpatragohain, Advocate General, Assam, Niloy Dutta, Advocate General, Arunachal Pradesh, Subhash Das, former IAS, Pallav Bhattacharya, former IPS, Dr. Srishtidhar Dutta, retired professor, Sumanta Chaliha, author and columnist, Dr. Jaikanta Sharma, professor &columnist, Wasbir Hussain, senior journalist, Samujjal Bhattacharya, Chief Adviser, All Assam Student Union (AASU), Dipanka Kumar Nath, President, All Assam Student Union (AASU), Lurinjyoti Gogoi, General Secretary, All Assam Student Union (AASU) and Joint Secretary, MHA Satyendra Garg as member secretary.
