Rio while addressing the 29th Angami Students’ Union (ASU) biennial general conference at Kisama on Saturday said, “During my meeting with Union Home minister Amit Shah separate flag was discussed where the home minister mentioned that separate Naga flags can be issued in other events other than government, official events and buildings. Centre is holding discussions with legal and constitutional experts in this regard.”
Rio also said that on the issue of a separate ‘Yehzabo’ (constitution) a panel would be set after settlement to work out the details democratically.
NSCN-IM is demanding a separate flag and Constitution and government of India has earlier rejected the demand. Talks are caught in logjam over these two issues.
Rio maintained that the Naga issue is not limited to Naga political groups or the state government but it involves Naga people as a whole.
NSCN-IM had earlier stated the issue of the Naga national flag and Constitution cannot be put on the bargaining table in exchange for anything. The Naga national identity symbolized by the Naga flag and Constitution cannot be sacrificed.
