Government has not done anything to solve the Jadavpur University fiasco: ABVP
Kolkata: Accusing the Trinamool Congress government of destroying student-friendly atmosphere in educational institutions, ABVP today alleged that no step has been taken to solve the impasse at Jadavpur University which has been going on since last five months.

"When the problem has been persisting for last five months, then it means that the government has not taken any step to solve the matter. They are not at all bothered about the students," ABVP's national general secretary Srihari Borikar said here in a press conference.

One of the twelve students, who have been on an indefinite hunger strike in Jadavpur University demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor, was hospitalised on Saturday after his health deteriorated.

While talking about the ongoing student body elections in the state, Borikar alleged that the TMC's students wing Trinamool Congress Chatra Parishad (TMCP) had ushered in a "reign of terror" in educational institutions.

"What the TMCP is doing with the help of state government is not democracy. They have ushered in a reign of teror in educational institutions and are trying to stop the ABVP activists from filing nominations. We won't tolerate this. We want free and fair elections in educational institutions so that ABVP too can file and contest elections," Borikar said.

Borikar accused a section of administration in police and educational institutes of being partial and acting in a biased way in favour of TMCP.

ABVP state secretary Sunir Haldar said they will seek appointment with Governor K N Tripathi and inform him about the ongoing situation over the college elections.

RSS' students' wing ABVP, which till yesterday was a non-entity in the state's student's politics which is polarised between Trinamool Chatra Parishad (TMCP) and CPI(M)'s wing SFI, has recently made its presence felt by winning elections in two colleges in the state after a decade.
