Government files status report on steps taken to help rape victims

The Karnataka Government filed its status report on the steps taken by it to help rape victims on a PIL seeking rehabilitation of such victims.

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Government today filed its status report on the steps taken by it to help rape victims on a PIL seeking rehabilitation of such victims among other things.

In the status report filed by Advocate General S Vijay Shankar before the division bench, headed by Chief Justice D H Waghela, the government submitted that the rehabilitation of victims of body offence and property offence would be brought through an appropriate legislation.

Government said it has constituted a committee through a March 30 2013 circular, comprising IGP of that particular range,senior law officer, Assistant Director of Prosecution (in the office of Superintendent of Police), Additional Superintendent of Police or Deputy Superintendent of Police to review acquittal cases.

In case of any lapses on the part of Investigating Officer or police officer,the committee may recommend to the competent authority, disciplinary action against the said official.

The circular said the committee would also monitor and find out if there were any lapses on part of the prosecutor impleading the criminal cases.

The committee under the chairmanship of ADGP (Crime), Director and Joint Director Prosecution, would meet once in three months and recommend to the competent authority disciplinary action against the errant officials.

The government assured that the petitioner's suggestion to videograph the victim's version of the complaint would be implemented in all police stations in the state in due course of time.
