The government today dismissed rumours of "impending cyclone" over Arabian Sea or the Bay of Bengal on social networking sites, saying there is no probability of its development during the next one week.

NEW DELHI: The government today dismissed rumours of "impending cyclone" over Arabian Sea or the Bay of Bengal on social networking sites, saying there is no probability of its development during the next one week.

The Meteorological Department rubbished the rumours on some social networking sites about the cyclone.

"There were certain false alarms about an impending cyclone on some social networking sites.

"As and when situation will arise, appropriate bulletins/messages will be issued by IMD to concerned agencies and details will also be provided to media agencies as well as uploaded on IMD's official website for cyclone alerts," the the MeT department said in a statement.

The Meteorological Department is the nodal agency to monitor and issue warnings in association with cyclonic disturbances over the north Indian Ocean including the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
