Government determined on Musharraf's arrest warrant: Pak minister

LAHORE: The Pakistan government will ensure the implementation of an arrest warrant issued for former President Pervez Musharraf by a court, Law Minister Babar Awan said today.

A court, and not a bar or lawyers, had issued the warrant for the former President and the government will not allow anybody to become hero on the issue, he said while addressing lawyers at the Punjab Bar Council.

"Nobody can pressurise the government on such issues," he said.

The Pakistan People's Party-led government does not have any personal agenda and will ensure the fulfillment of the national agenda, he said.

An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of Musharraf after the special prosecutor handling the Benazir Bhutto assassination case alleged that the former President had not cooperated with investigators probing the killing.

Musharraf has been living in self-exile in Britain since he left Pakistan in early 2009.

Investigators have accused him of failing to provide adequate security to former premier and PPP chief Bhutto, who was killed by a suicide attacker in Rawalpindi in December 2007.

The former military ruler's aides have said there is "no possibility" of him appearing in court.
