Government asks locals, tourists to stay away from river Beas in Himachal Pradesh due to rising water levels

Due to increasing water levels, the gates of Pandoh Dam on the river may be opened at anytime and an advisory has been issued to avert any mishap, an official said.

The water levels have increased due to melting of snow on the peaks in the catchment area of the river, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Dehra (Kangra), Dhanver Thakur said.
Dharamsala: In an advisory, Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district administration has asked locals and tourists to stay away from river Beas due to increase in water levels.

Due to increasing water levels, the gates of Pandoh Dam on the river may be opened at any point of time and the advisory has been issued to avert any mishap, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Dehra (Kangra), Dhanver Thakur said.

The water levels have increased due to melting of snow on the peaks in the catchment area of the river, he said.


Warning has been issued for people living in areas like Rakkad, Jaswana, Dadasiba, Haripura and Pragpur.
