Government accepts IPS officer K Annamalai's resignation
CM HD Kumaraswamy had personally selected Annamalai to head South division in Bengaluru going by his track record, and gave him specific tasks on crime control. The officer had earlier served as SP in Udupi and Chikmagalur districts.

The officer was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bengaluru South division at the time of resignation. He has earlier served in Chikkamagaluru and Udupi districts as SP. An engineer with an MBA degree from IIM-Lucknow, Annamalai is expected to take plunge into politics. Annamalai hails from Tamil Nadu and was borne on the Karnataka cadre.
In his earlier interview to ET, the officer had said “I am taking a break now and will look at a career in public service within the next six months.”
In an open letter to his friends, the officer, who is currently serving as DCP (South) in Bengaluru, said that he has taken the decision after contemplating for about six months. “Last year, my visit to Kailash Manasarovar was an eyeopener as it helped me to see my priorities in life better. Madhukar Shetty sir’s life in a way made me to re-examine my own life. All good things had to come to an end and I have decided now my time in khaki is done,” Annamalai said in his letter, referring to the death of his senior colleague Shetty, who died in December.
