“They should be spending time in Covid-19 hospitals, but they are coming here and provoking people. This is because they have not accepted the people's verdict. “The new government is not even a day old and they are sending teams, letters and their leaders," she said, blaming the BJP for spreading Covid-19 in the state.
Her statement comes hours after Union minister V Muraleedharan’s convoy was attacked in West Midnapore. The minister has accused “TMC goons” for orchestrating the attack. He was on a visit to a party worker's house that had been vandalised in post-poll violence.
The CM also said that Union ministers travelling to the state will also have to get a negative RT-PCR report and the rule will apply to special flights as well.
Banerjee also made a slew of announcements, including Rs 2 lakh compensation, for each of the families of those killed in violence. She also announced job of a home guard to one family member each of all five persons killed in CAPF firing in Sitalkuchi and a CID probe into the incident.
In a controversial move, she has said that untrained medical practitioners will be empowered to deal with Covid-19 patients.
