Malappuram (Ker): Goverment should intervene effectively on the expatriate problem in the wake of the new labour policy adopted by Saudi Arabia, IUML's Kerala unit today said.

The policy is expected to affect the expatriate workers of the state and there should be effective intervention by the government on the problems, Kerala Industries minister P K Kunhalikutty told reporters after a leadership meeting of the IUML here.

Referring to the UDF government in the state, he said it was performing effectively despite several "adverse situations."

He said the recent controversies should have been avoided. Unnecessary controversies should not be created which would bring bad name for overnment among the people, adding, each political party in the front should find a solution.

Government's achievements was getting drowned in unwanted controversies and this was not good, he said.

Media should show retraint in their reports and should not exaggerate, he added.
