HYDERABAD: Former TDP leader T Devender Goud on Friday launched a new party to fight for separate Telangana state.
Christened as "Nava Telangana Praja Party", the new outfit would carry forward statehood movement in democratic and peaceful manner, Goud said here.
Goud, who was widely seen as number two in TDP, had quit the party last month following differences with the party chief N Chandrababu Naidu over Telangana state hood issue.
After holding consultations with Telangana intellectuals and representatives of various pro-Telangana organisations, he decided to launch a new party to strive for achieving the statehood goal.
"Telangana Region has been subjected to deliberate neglect and discrimination for several decades. The people of the region have been reduced to second class citizens in their own homeland," Goud, who held several key positions in TDP governments in the past, said.
He said the new party would organise a massive public meeting at Nizam College grounds here on August 27 where the party's agenda and policies would be placed before the people.
Meanwhile, Goud's close associates on Friday visited Election Commission's office at New Delhi to complete the formalities for registering the new party.
Goud also unveiled the party flag amidst loud cheers from his supporters.
