'Gordon Brown to steer Britain clear of economic crisis'
An NRI entrepreneur Lord Swraj Paul has said that he was confident that PM Gordon Brown will soon steer Britain clear of the current economic situation.
"I am confident that it will not be very long before Prime Minister Gordon Brown steers the country clear of the current economic crisis," Lord Paul said, while speaking at a function to celebrate the victory of Labour MP Virendra Sharma in the Ealing Southall by-elections.
Ken Livingstone, former Mayor of London, told the 500-strong gathering at the Crown Conference Centre in South Ruislip, that "multiculturalism in London" was under severe threat because of the policies adopted by new Mayor Boris Johnson of the Conservative party.
"Boris Johnson has not come out with even a single policy so far in the public interest and all his actions so far were against multiculturalism," he said, adding that only Labour could give the best governance in the city and country.
Several speakers including Stephen Pound, Chairman, Labour Friends of India complimented Virendra Sharma for his outstanding work in the constituency.
Britain's economy is struggling under the credit crunch and a slowing property market and businesses are facing the prospect of sky-high energy bills after crude oil prices hit records high near USD 147 (92 euros) last week.
