NEW DELHI: As many as 42 children have died in last 48 hours at Gorakhpur' BRD Medical College. Out of these, 7 children have died due to encephalitis and rest due to various reasons including infections and pneumonia. Many other children are still under treatment in the hospital.

"42 children died in 48 hours of which 7 due to encephalitis, rest due to other reasons," said PK Singh, Principal, BRD Medical College.

Singh also clarified that there was no shortage of staff, medicine or oxygen in the hospital.

The College came into limelight early thing month when over 60 children had died at the hospital within a span of a week. The deaths allegedly happened due to disruption in the supply of oxygen cylinders, a charge denied by Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government.

Meanwhile, suspended BRD Hospital principal Rajiv Mishra and wife Purnima have been arrested from Kanpur yesterday. Police have also raided Rajghat residence of BRD Hospital's officer Dr Kafeel but didn't find him there.
