Gopal Shetty is new Mumbai unit chief

MUMBAI: In a swift development, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday evening removed its Mumbai unit chief Madhu Chavan and installed another equally-less familiar legislator, Gopal Shetty, in his place.

Mr Chavan���s appointment as Mumbai unit president had raised the hackles of senior leader Gopinath Munde, leading to his resignation from all party posts.

���Gopal Shetty has been appointed as Mumbai president in place of Madhu Chavan,��� state president of BJP Nitin Gadkari said. Incidentally, Mr Gadkari was instrumental in appointing Mr Chavan as Mumbai unit chief.
