RANCHI: Denied a ticket by the BJP, Gopal Krishna Patar today filed nomination papers as an independent candidate from the Tamar (ST) Assembly constituency.

"As per the wish of my supporters I filed nomination papers from Tamar seat," said Patar.

Patar, who is also known as Raja Peter, had on November 9 said he would decide whether to contest as an independent or from any party.

He had defeated then Chief Minister Shibu Soren from the seat in 2009, forcing Soren to step down from office. In the same year he retained the seat on a Janata Dal(U) ticket.

Patar had recently joined the BJP with the hope of getting a ticket, but the saffron party allotted the seat to Ajsu party as per their understanding to forge an alliance.

Tamar goes for polls on December 2, the second of the five-phase polling in the state.
