GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday is out to douse the fire and is engaged in marathon discussion with the agitating organisations.

Gogoi has appealed to the leaders of All-Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) to suspend and call off their agitational programmes for the return of complete normalcy.

At an hour-long meeting at his official residence with the 10-member delegation led by AKRSU president Biswajit Ray and general secretary Pradip Ray, Chief Minister Gogoi appealed to the organisation to suspend and call off their agitational programmes for normalcy to return. “Peace has to prevail for the process of dialogue to continue,” Gogoi said.

The Chief Minister assured the AKRSU leaders that the Government would look into it. Gogoi said that his Government would facilitate talks between the AKRSU, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.

The Chief Minister also assured the leaders that the Government would actively consider their various demands which include an engineering institute at Bongaigaon, allotment of land for Bir Chilarai guest house at Guwahati, immediate construction of Bir Chilarai Sports & Cultural Complex with a research centre at Bongaigaon.
