Gogoi allays fears regarding Brahmaputra diversion

Assam CM Tarun Gogoi on Monday allayed fear that the diversion of river Brahmaputra by China would not affect the river in the state.

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday allayed fear that the diversion of river Brahmaputra by China within its territory for dams would not affect the river in the state.

"There is no need for concern. When the Brahmaputra enters India from China it carries 78 million cubic metre water and has 600 million cubic metre water when it falls into the Bay of Bengal", Gogoi told journalists here.

Referring to the ongoing reports about the mighty river being affected in Assam, he said, "most of the water of the Brahmaputra are within Assam only. There is no need for any concern".
