Goa govt to write to Centre again to denotify three SEZs

Goa government said that it would again write to the Centre, recommending afresh denotification of three Special Economic Zones in the state.

PANAJI: Goa government on Friday said it would again write to the Centre, recommending afresh denotification of three Special Economic Zones in the state.

The state government, which had earlier cancelled the land allotted to the SEZs, clarified that revocation of 'stop work' order did not mean that the developers can go ahead with the projects.

"We withdrew the stop work order because we had to file an affidavit in the High Court," Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said.

The state had withdrawn stop work order this week responding to the petition filed by K Raheja Corporation, one of the developers facing the axe.

Kamat said the state will again be writing to the Centre to denotify three SEZs K Raheja Corporation, Peninsula Pharma Research Centre and Meditab Specialities Pvt Ltd. "If required, we will review SEZ-2006 policy," he said.

The Union Commerce Ministry had expressed its inability to denotify three SEZs, saying it was untenable with law and that the state should initiate a dialogue with the promoters.

The SEZ promoters have already submitted their views to the Centre, which has said it would take a final decision on matter in July after getting the state's comments on submissions made by the developers.
